The Worn Bottle

The Worn Bottle

The Worn Bottle is small tavern that meets travelers trekking the eastern road into Codun from the Raceway and beyond. The Worn Bottle has seen better days, a fact betrayed by peeling race posters and a dilapidated facade.  It is a 2-storey building which on the ground floor serves food & drink to mainly local patrons seated at small wooden tables in a single open plan room. The interior is dim and warm, a dull fire burns to keep away the southern desert chill. Long shadows are cast by pipes and thin wooden supports dotted about the main room that make fragile attempt at holding up the sagging ceiling.  A long bar crafted from a single piece of wood stands at the back, above which an antique, painted board displays the menu. The Worn Bottle has a second floor of accommodation, accessed via steep hewn stone stairs near the bar, which these days experiences little use.

The tavern is run by a 30-year-old, unmarried woman named Polly and her aging father – who is known to all as Da. They are exceedingly kind and gentle people.

The Weird: One of the pipes near the fireplace carries waste water from the kitchen and upper floors outside; as waste water rushes through it, a pleasant chirping sound is emitted from curious carved bird figurine, that has been jammed by its tail into the pipe.
